CARTERVILLE-James Claude Shoemake, 87, of Carterville, passed away at 9:35 AM on Monday February 13, 2006 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
James was born in Whitwell, TN on October 21, 1918 to David Edward and Maggie Marie (Smith) Shoemake. He married Helen Morine Davis on December 31, 1939 in Cape Girardeau, MO. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2005.
Mr. Shoemake was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He retired from United Technology in Herrin and was a retired farmer.

1 daughter- Connie Lee (Stanley) Garten- Herrin, IL
5 grandchildren- Jeri Lynn Morthland- Christopher, IL
Teri Jo Masters- Palestine, TX
Kendra Shoemake- Illinois
Stephanie Cranmer- Memphis, TN
Shawn Shoemake- Deerefield, IL
8 great grandchildren
6 great great grandchildren
1 sister-in-law- Pauline Pyle- Herrin, IL

As per Jamess wishes, his body was donated to the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Private family services were held. Arrangements are in care of Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
