James E. Tanner, 76, of Creal Springs, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 10:30 P.M. at the Edward Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood, IL.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Mitchell-Hughes funeral home in Marion. Rev. Paul Lee will officiate. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery south of Crab Orchard. Military services will be performed at graveside by VFW Post 1301 of Marion. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday evening from 5-9 p.m.
James was born July 10, 1927 in Johnson County to Hollie and Elsie (Davis) Tanner. He married Betty June (Evetts) Tanner in Clay County, AR on November 1, 1952. She passed away July 28, 1995.
Survivors include Two sons and Daughter-in-laws: James D and Pamela Tanner of South Elgin; and William G. and Susan Tanner of Elgin. Three grandchildren Courtney and David Tanner of South Elgin and Kristina Koga of Paletine, IL; Two brothers and sisters-in-law; Lindell and Linda Tanner and Hollie and Sharon Tanner both of Creal Springs; Sister and brother-in-law Irene and Ray Horn of Creal Springs; Sister-in-law Vicki Eyestone of Marion; Sister-in-law Rosemary and James Norman of Glenarm, IL; Brother-in-law Louis and Cheryl Lorenze of Arnold, MO; Several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his beloved dog Kenna. His parents, wife, and one infant daughter preceded him.
James was retired form Saint Charles Kitchen where he worked for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. Veteran during the Korean War. He was of Baptist faith.
