James Earl Holland, age 95, of Bush, passed away at 2:05 pm on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Herrin Hospital.
James was born on June 23, 1921, the son of Milton and Uelah (Beshers) Holland. He married Doris E. Pinkston on December 6, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2006. Together they shared 64 years of marriage.
Mr. Holland was a coal miner, having retired from the Freeman Coal Company. He proudly served as the mayor of Bush for twelve years. James was a member of the Hurst Masonic Lodge 1004, the United Mine Workers of America, the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, and the Crab Orchard Boat and Yacht Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife – Doris, son – Jim Holland, daughter – Judy Price, sister – Roseland Pinkston, three brothers – Larry Eugene Holland, Robert “Bob” Holland and Delbert Holland.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 1 pm at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Danny Norman officiating. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from Tuesday evening from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
