Herrin- James F. LaCroix, Jr., 65, of Herrin, passed away at 5:45 AM, Saturday, June 9, 2007 at his home.
James was born on March 29, 1942 in Lawrence, Mass. to James F. & Ruby (LeFeau) LaCroix, Sr. He married Barbara James on October 6, 1971 in Decatur, IL. She survives of Herrin.
Mr. LaCroix served his country honorably during Vietnam while enlisted in the US Marine Corp. He was a chopper mechanic while stationed on the Aircraft Carrier USS Princeton. At one point they were nervously awaiting orders while just off the coast of Cuba during the Missile Crisis. Once honorably discharged, he returned stateside and began his career as a maintenance mechanic. He worked many years at Maytag in Herrin prior to his retirement in 2003.
When he was younger he enjoyed racing motocross and traveling on his motorcycle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling. He liked bass fishing and hunting. He harvested an eight point buck while hunting with his son, David.
Jimmy was an active member of Southern Illinois Worship Center in Herrin and served as trustee of the church board. He was a life member of the Herrin American Legion & VFW Posts. He was the bugler on the military detail and blew Taps at the cemetery for many fallen soldiers throughout the area.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM, Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Elvin Ervin will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin American Legion & VFW Posts. Visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Monday, June 11, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Southern Illinois Worship Center/ Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
