Marion James Harold Woolard, 75, of Huddleston, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Bedford Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Benton on March 31, 1930 the son of the late Clyde and Madge (Edwards) Woolard.
Jim fell in love with Smith Mountain Lake 20 years ago while living in DeWitt, New York and conducting business in that area.
In DeWitt, he was active in community affairs and was President of the DeWitt Kiwanis Club from 1977-78. Jim loved people and often entertained the elderly in local nursing homes by playing the guitar and singing.
He was the owner of S.T./Woolard Co., Inc., Cazenovia, New York, which he started in 1974.
His love of the water and sailing on Lake Ontario led him and his wife, Barbara, to retire to his beloved Smith Mountain Lake full-time in 1998.
Jim was a member of Staunton Baptist Church, an Army veteran, and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, Jim is survived by his sister Ruth Woods and her husband Clinton of Johnston City, Mother-in-law Helen Hudgens of Marion, Brother-in-law Tom Hudgens of Marion, Sister-in-law Judy Arnold and husband Barry of Marion, Niece Sally Pearce and husband Joe of Marion, Niece Suzy Albright and husband Steve of Goreville, Niece Beth Ann Ide and husband Jim of Oceanside, California, Nephews Jeff Woods of Lake Japaia, Mexico and Mark Arnold of Marion. He is also survived by his loyal and special friend Max.
A Memorial service will be Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Gordon Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Military rites performed by Marion VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Staunton Baptist Church in Huddleston, VA with Pastor Chris Smith officiating.
