Herrin- JAMES O COLLINS, age 77, of Herrin, passed away at 8:02pm on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Herrin Hospital. James was born in Johnston City on August 28, 1933, the son of Marvin John Collins and Gladys (Whitson) Collins Dean. He married Doris Evelyn Wernke in Energy on August 18, 1956. She survives in Herrin. Mr. Collins was an Air Force Veteran, having served his country honorably for eight years. He was a member of the Herrin Eagles. James was retired from retail sales management. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife- Doris Collins of Herrin, IL Son- Steven Collins of California Son- Marvin Jim Collins and companion Sahra of Herrin, IL Daughter- Debbie Collins and fianc Robert Jay Tippy Jr of Herrin, IL 3 Grandchildren- Andrew James Collins, Tina Monteith, and Jason Monteith 6 Great Grandchildren- Lorelei, Drake, Kyra, Lexi, Christopher, and Grayce Half Sister- Kitty Collins of Spokane, WA He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Mark Hutson officiating. Entombment will follow at Herrin City Cemetery with military honors provided by Herrins VFW and American Legion Posts. Visitation will be held from 11-1pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
