James R. Simmons

Desoto- James R. Simmons, age 61, of DeSoto, passed away at 5:36am on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. James was born in Murphysboro on August 4, 1947, the son of James E. and Virginia Simmons. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in DeSoto and a United States Navy Veteran. He was a former coal miner. Survivors include three daughters- Angela and Bobby Heffner of Cannonberg, PA Jamie Renee Simmons Rochelle Leigh Simmons Special Friend and caregiver- Cathy Dover of DeSoto Brother- Steve and Becky Simmons of DeSoto Four Sisters- Judy and James Kiehn of DuQuoin Tonya Jo Simmons of Herrin Linda and R.D. Daugherty of Ramsey Donna Reynolds of DuQuoin Several Nieces and nephews James was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother- Louise Simmons. Graveside services will be held at 11am on Monday, March 23, 2009 at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion with Rev. Chris Hottensen officiating. Friends and family are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Military honors will be presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Unit.
