James Ralph Burns, 89, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 3:00 P.M at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
James was born on July 16, 1918 in Marion the son of Bert and Barbara (Midgett) Burns. He married Maxine Joyce Cunningham on November 10, 1956 in West Frankfort and together they have shared over 51 years of marriage. Maxine survives in Marion.
Jamesworking career was with the VA Hospital, where he worked for over 33 years, retiring as Food Service Supervisor. He was a WWII Army Veteran, serving for 30 months in the South Pacific, receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Marion, American Legion Post #147, lifetime member of VFW Post #1301, Civil Defense, former member of the Auxiliary Police and he was an avid Cardinal fan.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 17, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Bill Rucker officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Unit. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
