Marion Janet F. George, 97, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 6:28 P.M. at the home of her nephew.
Janet was born May 9, 1913 in Marion the daughter of George A. & Eva (Hartwell) Fisher. She married James H. George on August 23, 1949 in Marion and together they shared over 24 years of marriage until his death on November 4, 1973.
She retired from Marion Unit #2 after 40 years of service. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Martha Circle, Hearts Helping Hearts, National Chapter of AARP, Marion Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Delta Theta Tau Sorority and she also volunteered for Project Mama for 2 years. During WWII she served with the American Red Cross as a Gray Lady at Marion VA Hospital.
Known as Aunt Nanny to those who knew and loved her, Janet George had an amazing 97 years, 11 months, 8 days of life. For many of those years she was our familys matriarch, role model and storyteller. She loved playing with her dog, watching NCIS, Dancing with the Stars and All My Children with any family members she could recruit to watch with her, but she especially loved cheering for San Diego State University basketball games. Most of all, she loved loving and helping and protecting her niece, nephews, their spouses, their children and their childrens children. Thats what made her Aunt Nanny. She also made the best chocolate pudding pie anyone has ever tasted. Aunt Nanny was one of the classiest, smartest, funniest and honest women God ever put on this earth. We thank Hospice for their loving care the last 12 days of her life, and we thank everyone else who helped make it possible for her to spend her last years living with her family and sleeping in her own bed.
