Freeman Spur- Jeanette R. Edson, 77, of Freeman Spur, formerly of Newburgh, IN, passed away at 6:32 PM, Saturday, October 13, 2012 at home.
Jeanette was born on June 20, 1935 in Freeman Spur to Cottie and Fern (Dare) Restivo. She married Arnold Arnie Edson on September 29, 1956 in West Frankfort. He survives of Freeman Spur.
Jeanette was a 1953 graduate of Herrin High School and her first job was at Sangamo in Herrin, IL. She later attended beauty school. She was a practicing beautician for many years and enjoyed doing hair for family and friends at no charge. She also worked as a Secretary for the town of Newburgh, IN for ten years before retiring.
Jeanette enjoyed being the wife of a career Navy Chief which gave her the opportunity to travel and live in different places, such as: Hawaii, Washington, Indiana and Illinois.
Last month, Jeanette and the love of her life, Arnie, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Three daughters were born from their union.
Jeanette was an angel sent to her family. She was a loving and caring person who always put others before herself. Her hands cared for three generations. She will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved her. She enjoyed watching Westerns with Arnie, stories of her great-grandchildren, books, crosswords, puzzles and heart warming stories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter- Susan Arnette Edson, brothers- Joseph Restivo, Jackie Restivo and Babe Restivo, one sister- Mary Orosco and one sister in law- Arlene Neuman.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Don Colson will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
