Jewell Avripas

Herrin- Jewell M. Avripas, 94, of Herrin, passed away at 6:19 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2018 at her home. Jewell was born on February 28, 1924 at home in Chittyville to Dewey and Kitty (Mercer) Davis. She married Tony Avripas on March 22, 1946 in Herrin. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1997. Jewell retired as head bookkeeper for Sohns Men’s Clothing in Herrin, prior to that she worked in sales for Zwicks and Goldsmith in Herrin. She was a sweet and loving lady who volunteered her time with the Herrin Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She loved the Lord with all her heart and shared her beliefs with many people. She was a founding member of Southern Illinois Worship Center and was a member of the Ladies Group in the church. Jewell was the cornerstone of her families Christianity and led many to the Lord. Her quiet strength, sweet personality and beautiful smile will be missed by her many friends and family. Survivors include- Son- Edward Avripas of Herrin Son- Dennis Avripas of Herrin Grandchildren: Kimberly Webb and husband Ron of Seneca, IL Kelli Neushwander and husband Eric of Carterville 6 great grandchildren 6 great great grandchildren Sister- Anita Davis of Herrin Sister- Mary Jo Havens of Evansville, IN Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, dearest son in law- Sam Myers and five brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Jason McKinnies will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
