Goreville- James Charles Jim Daugherity, 54, passed away at 2:00 AM, Thursday, July 19, 2007 at his home in Goreville.
Jim was born on July 8, 1953 in Chicago to Richard & Kathleen (Battersby) Daugherity. He married Lanetta Jo Strunk on St. Patricks Day 1990 in Creal Springs. They shared twenty wonderful years together. She survives of Goreville.
As a young man, Jim earned Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in scouting. The ideals and skills he learned through scouting helped him lead others later in life. He worked as an engineer at General Dynamics, formerly Olin Corp. He was a tireless worker who quickly rose through the ranks of management to become Director of Engineering and Programs. Jim was known to be a firm but fair manager who didnt mind getting his own hands dirty and who aspired to help others reach their fullest potential. He was a brilliant man who held US patents.
He was an avid fisherman who often competed in area Bass Tournaments. He was a member of the BASS Club. He liked to cook and was a master woodworker who crafted many intricate pieces of furniture and cabinetry. He enjoyed spending time in his garden tending to his vegetables and flowers. He and Jo most enjoyed traveling the world together. They spent time together in Europe, all over the Caribbean and North America. He will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Daughter- Rachel Gibbens of Herrin
Three grandchildren- Lindsey, Colt & Hailey
Brother & sister in law- Richard & Kathy Daugherity of Colonial Heights, VA
Sister & brother in law- Nanci & David Werner of Sykesville, MD
Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Tim Woodard of Goreville Methodist Church will officiate. A eulogy will be given by Mark Doss and his brother Richard Daugherity. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Friday, July 27, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
