Herrin- Jimmie L. “Cowboy” Phifer, 62, of Herrin, passed away at 5:35 PM, Saturday, May 14, 2016 at West Side Care Center in West Frankfort.
Jimmie was born on April 23, 1954 in Ridgely, TN to James F. and Ammie (Holland) Phifer. He worked many years as a gas station attendant at Veach Gas Station and later as a bouncer at Fred’s Dance Barn in Carterville.
Cowboy loved watching western movies, especially John Wayne, and listening to his favorite country music artists like George Jones and Hank Williams Jr. He walked most everywhere he went and was a regular face to be seen walking about the local area. He most enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved him.

Son- Tommy Lee Phifer of Indiana
Sister- Barbara Daniels and husband John of Winter Haven, FL
Nephew- Joseph Riley and wife Joli of Royalton
Nephew- John Reams and wife Wendy of Carterville
Niece- Christina Castwell of Florida
Nephew- John Daniels, Jr of Florida
7 great nieces and nephews:
Dailee Riley of Herrin
Jay, Shawnee and Ozzy Suddath of Carterville
Evan, Josh and Eddie Reams of Carterville
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters- Toni Palmer, Lolita Phifer and Wanda Phifer and one brother- Pee Wee Phifer.
As per his wishes he will be cremated and private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
