Joann Mary Cecil, 83, of Marion passed away on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 6 pm at her home.
Joann was born October 2, 1931 in Chicago the daughter of Hugo Charles and Mary (Bowers) Kerwath. She was a 1950 graduate of Carbondale Community High School, married Jim Cecil in 1951 and made Carbondale her home until she moved to Marion in 2001.
She was a retired bookkeeper. She loved cooking, entertaining, dancing and playing cards, most especially in recent years you could find her at Marion Senior Citizens Center playing pinochle where she made many friends and truly enjoyed their fellowship.
Joann was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Carbondale, a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose Centralia Chapter 223, a lifetime member of the Carbondale Eagles Auxiliary #2569, VFW Ladies Auxiliary #7190. She was also a past Deputy Grand Regent with the Illinois Women of the Moose.

Daughter – Linda Cox and husband Bruce of Marion

Preceded by her Parents, brother and sister-in-law,– Richard and Ruth Kerwath, Sister-in-laws Pauline Kohlmeyer and Charlene Cecil, Brother-in-laws Bud Cecil, Gene Chamness, Larry Pryor, Homer Watson and James Moore and former husband Jim Cecil.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church, South University Avenue, Carbondale with Pastor Gray officiating. Entombment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5 – 8 pm at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home and Friday from 9 am until the time of service at the church.
