John L. Copeland, age 83, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 7:30pm on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at his home in Marion, surrounded by his loving family
John was born February 3, 1939 in Clay County, Arkansas, a son of Joe and Grace (Shelby) Copeland. He married the love of his life, Karen Tyler. She survives.
John was a graduate of Greenway High School class of 1957. After marriage they moved to Chicago. He served in the Army in Korea.
John loved Jesus, his church (Cross Community Church), his family, watching the Cubs, the Chicago Bears and listening to country music. The greatest joy in his life was his wife and daughter, Debbie and doing things with his nephews, Jeff & Bradley when they were kids.
In his later years he was a bus driver and volunteered at Heartland Regional Medical Center for many years.
He is survived by his spouse Karen Copeland of Marion, IL; one daughter, Debbie Copeland; one sister, Maggie (Huston) Fry; and his nephew, Jeffrey (Wendy) Fry, nephew Bradley (Katrina) Fry, Great Nieces and Nephews Bailey, Mary Ana, Jax, Uriah, and Sylace, Great Nieces and Nephew Karsyn, Faith and Paisley, and great great nephew Elliot. He is preceded in death by his parents- Joe and Grace (Shelby) Copeland, infant brother- Lindell Copeland, and nephew- Randell Keith Fry.
As per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life service will be held in Marion at a later date. Services and burial will also be held in Greenway, Arkansas. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with final arrangements.
