Herrin - John Elvin Davis, 80, died at 2:10 p.m. on Monday, March l8, 2002 at Herrin Hospital. Mr. Davis was born October l4, l921 in Herrin to Dewey Delmar and Kitty (Mercer) Davis. He married Nellie "Jean" Taylor on May 9, l941 in Denver, Colorado and she survives of Herrin. He was a coal miner for Inland Steel Coal Company in Sesser, IL. He also worked at Allen Industries in Herrin and owned and operated John E. Davis and Sons Trucking Company. He was a member of West Monroe Apostolic Church and was a WWII U. S. Army veteran. He enjoyed his family and was a loving father. Survivors include: His wife - Jean Davis - Herrin Five sons and four daughters in law - Robert Wayne Davis - Austin, TX Paul Richard and Janice Davis - Lake City, FL John William and Marsha Davis - Sandwich, IL Dewey Delmar and Ann Davis - Eatonton, GA James Joseph and Sheila Davis - Herrin 15 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren 2 brothers Delmar Lee and Betty Davis - Lakeland, FL Loren Davis - Herrin Sister - Jewell Avripas - Herrin Sister - Anita Davis - Herrin Sister and bro in law - Mary Jo and Richard Havens - Evansville, IN Preceded by parents, brother Kenneth Davis and infant brother, Dewey Davis, Jr. Funeral services will be at ll:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Terry Griffith will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home. Entombment with full military rites by the Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy.
