John Earl Mattix, age 70, of Bradley, Illinois (formerly of Marion) died Friday, September 7, 2001, at 12:07 P.M. at the Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois. He had been employed with Home Health Care for the elderly before his retirement. He had also worked as a mental health technician with the Manteno State Hospital. He enjoyed visiting and helping older people. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed country music and traveling to Branson, Missouri, with his wife Audrey. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was of the Baptist faith.
Visitation for Mr. Mattix was from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Monday, September 10th at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Graveside services with burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Shorty Alsip officiating. Memorials for Mr. Mattix may be given to the American Cancer Society or to his family.
He was born July 26, 1931 to Frank and Christina (Hunter) Mattix in Marion, Illinois. They preceded him in death. He married Audrey Kolberg on December 19, 1970 in Huntley, Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Audrey, of Bradley, and four cousins, L.B. Hunter of Marion, John Robert Hunter of Harrisburg, Dana Reynolds of Carbondale, and Amanda Todd of Decatur. He was preceded in death by one cousin, William Carlton.
