Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home John F. Chief Seymour-Obit & Picture Use Veterans Flag Herrin-John F. Chief Seymour, 80, died 2:24 P.M., Monday, November 3, 2003 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. John was born July 18, 1923 in Herrin to John Floyd & Hattie (Austin) Seymour. He first married Joyce Shoemake. She preceded him in death. He later married Lois (ODaniel) Stone on February 25, 1977 in Energy. Lois survives. John was a retired electrician from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He worked at several area coal mines before being employed at SIU-C. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of UMWA, IBEW Local #702, Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts, Fifty year member of the Herrin Masonic Lodge, Shriners Ainad Temple in East St. Louis. He was a former member of the Herrin Elks. He was also a lifetime member of Pigeon Inn in Herrin. Survivors Include: Wife: Lois Seymour of Herrin Daughter & Son In Law: Patricia Ann & Lindsey Lawwill of Herrin Son & Daughter In Law: Christopher & Melissa Crombar of Palmdale, CA. Son: Jimmy & Debbie Stone of Clear Creek, WY. Son & Daughter In Law: John Robert & Shelley Stone of Herrin Seventeen Grandchildren Three Great Grandchildren Brother & Sister In Law: Frank & Elaine Seymour of Carterville Sister: Helen Riddle of Marion Sister: Eloise Cochran of Belleville, IL. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife. Family wishes to thank the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna for the care & love that was given to John. Also a special thanks to Leah Tackett & her family. Funeral services will be 8:00 P.M., Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Franklin A. Schroeder officiating. Burial will be at a later date at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Parkinson Disease or to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home.
