John G. Chiodini, Jr.

Herrin- John G. Chiodini, Jr., age 85, of Defiance, OH, formerly of Herrin, passed away at 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Defiance Regional Medical Center in Defiance, OH. John was born on June 1, 1921 in Herrin, the son of Rose (Merlo) and John G. Chiodini, Sr. He married Beatrice Decuir in Beaumont, Texas on January 18, 1951 and together they shared 53 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 2, 2004. Mr. Chiodini was a bookkeeper for U.S. Powder, retiring in 1968. He was a World World II U.S. Army Veteran. John was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was a member of the Herrin Knights of Columbus and the Herrin Elks. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands: Genevieve & Glenn Kuhn of Defiance, Ohio; Rebecca & Robert Samay of Phoenix, AZ; and Cecilia & Greg Porter of Del Norte, CO; Seven Grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his sister- Theresa Calcaterra of Herrin, IL; and a brother-in-law- John Berra of Round Rock, TX. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife- Beatrice, two sisters- Ida Berra and Virginia DellEra; and two brothers-in-law- Angelo Calcaterra and William DellEra. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Friday, February 9, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
