John L. Best, 77, died Sunday November 23, 2003 at 4:37 A.M. in Herrin Hospital. John was born November 15, 1926 to Lacy and Daphne (Jones) Best in Jasper, Alabama. He married Shirley (Berry) Best on November 21, 1945 in Clinton, Illinois and she survives in Energy. John was retired from Sun Oil Company, served in Italy in the Air Force during WWII. Survivors include: Mother Daphne Best of Jasper, Alabama 2 Daughters Cynthia Trout and husband Gary of Johnston City Jenny Garshelis and husband Renny of Charleston 4 Grandsons Kris Danner and wife Candy of Austin, Texas Mike Danner of Romeoville, Illinois Tony Danner and wife Jenny of Marion Nick Garshelis and wife Carmen of Boise, Idaho One (1) Great Granddaughter Isabella Garshelis of Boise, Idaho Was looking forward to birth of 1st Great-Grandson Peyton Danner One (1) Brother Jack Best and wife Sue of Birmingham, Alabama One (1) Sister Sara Clem of Jasper, Alabama Several Nieces and Nephews Preceded by Father, Grandson Jerry Garshelis Graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion with military rites by V.F.W. Post #1301. Chaplins Jim Barrell and Glenn Sanders will officiate and eulogy will be given by Renny Garshelis. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. 8:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Memorials may be given to Shawnee Christian Nursing Home, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
