John L. Patterson

Johnston City- JOHN LAWTON PATTERSON, age 77, of Johnston City, passed away at 9:33am on Monday, October 22, 2007 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. John was born in Ferges, IL on April 2, 1930, the son of William and Fleeta (Sanders) Patterson. He married Norma Barton on April 1, 1955 in Herrin. Together, they shared fifty-two years of marriage. She survives in Johnston City. Mr. Patterson was a retired coal miner for Brushy Creek Company. He served as a sergeant in the United Stated Army during the Korean War. John was a member of the Herrin VFW, American Legion, and the United Mine Workers of America. Survivors include- Two Sons- Ted and Carol Murphy of Johnston City, IL Jay Lawton Patterson of Seattle, WA Six Daughters- Sandra and Mike McKinnon of Huntsville, AL Beverly and Robert Warshawsky of Anna, IL Alice and Sam Couch of Russellville, TN Brenda Beltz of Douglasville, GA Angie and Wayne Curtis of The Colony, TX Ella Christine Murphy of Salt Lake City, Utah Grandchildren- Christopher Edmonds, Ronny and Carla Reed, Aimmee and John Dete, Kimberlyn and Tom Haag, Billy Beltz, Erica Beltz, Christy Beltz, Brandi and Rick Eastman, Micah Jackson, Sasha Jackson, John Patterson, Matthew Patterson, Samantha Patterson, Mark Stephen Overturf, Gayla Litton, And Rosser Smith Several Great-Grandchildren Sister- Janet and Carroll Gentry of Herrin, IL Brother-In-Law- Bruce Richmond Many nieces and nephews John was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter- Trena Patterson Smith, one sister- LaCleeta Richmond, and two brothers- Herschel and William Patterson (D.C.) Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 26, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery with military honors performed by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts.
