Johnston City- JOHN LAWTON PATTERSON, age 77, of Johnston City, passed away at 9:33am on Monday, October 22, 2007 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin.
John was born in Ferges, IL on April 2, 1930, the son of William and Fleeta (Sanders) Patterson. He married Norma Barton on April 1, 1955 in Herrin. Together, they shared fifty-two years of marriage. She survives in Johnston City.
Mr. Patterson was a retired coal miner for Brushy Creek Company. He served as a sergeant in the United Stated Army during the Korean War. John was a member of the Herrin VFW, American Legion, and the United Mine Workers of America.

John was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter- Trena Patterson Smith, one sister- LaCleeta Richmond, and two brothers- Herschel and William Patterson (D.C.)
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 26, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery with military honors performed by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the funeral home.
