Marion John R. Simpson, 94, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2007 at 1:40 P.M. at Parkway Manor in Marion. John was born July 22, 1912 in Spillertown, the son of Thomas and Sarah J. (Rowbotham) Simpson. He married Gladys Nichols on December 5, 1936 and together they shared over 64 wonderful years until her death on November 14, 2001. John was a charter member along with his wife Gladys of the Aldersgate Methodist Church. During his working career he was employed for 31 years at Norge Corp from 1946 until the time of his retirement in 1977. Johns hobbies were gardening and making special woodworking items for his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include: Daughter, Sandra Williams and husband Larry of Fairfield, Illinois, Son, Robert D. Simpson and wife Marlene of Herrin. His grandchildren, Bryan Williams and wife Barbara, Tammy Lee and husband Glen all of Fairfield and Bradley Robert Simpson of Tallahassee, Florida. His great grandchildren, Derek Lee, Brandon Lee and Lauren Williams all of Fairfield. Sister-in-law, Jewell Faye Simpson. Preceded by his Parents, his wife, sisters, Catherine Clark and Ruth Grover, and brother Thomas Simpson. Funeral services will be Friday, March 23, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Ebert and Rev. Joye Perry officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mark Smith and the Parkway Manor Staff for their excellent care of their loved one. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Aldersgate Methodist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
