PITTSBURG- JOHN ROBERT TYLER, age 88, of Pittsburg, passed away at 1:03pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau. John was born in Pittsburg on July 2, 1921, the son of Ed and Jesse (Marks) Tyler. He married Betty Fowler in Benton on February 9, 1950. She survives. John was a member of the Medical Corp in the Greensboro North Carolina Army Hospital from 1942-1946. He worked at Old Ben Coal #11 for a while before working at Zeigler #4 for 32 years. He then worked for the state department for two years. John formerly served as a city of Pittsburg board member. For several years, he was the caretaker for Union Grove Cemetery. He enjoyed spending time with his family and hunting and fishing when he was able to. Survivors include his wife- Betty (Fowler) Tyler of Pittsburg, IL Son and daughter-in-law- Kenneth and Faye Tyler of Pittsburg, IL Daughter and son-in-law- Barbara and Marvin Emery of Pittsburg, IL Two Granddaughters- Kentra and Tony Wells of Olney, IL Jessi Emery of Pittsburg, IL Brother and sister-in-law- James and Joyce Tyler of Pittsburg, IL He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be Friday, February 5, 2010 at 2 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Jerry Schell officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery in Pittsburg. Military honors will be presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be Friday, 10-2pm P.M. at the funeral home.
