Herrin- John R. Vander, 81, of Herrin died at 10:35 AM, Sunday, March 3, 2002 at his home.
John was born on August 23, 1920 in Skidmore, KS to John & Maggie (McKee) Vander. He married Della (Monolo) Vander on August 3, 1943 in Herrin. She survives of Herrin.
John was a WWII Army veteran. He has owned and operated Vander Trucking in Herrin since 1945.
He was a member of our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, the Herrin Elks, and the Operating Engineers Local #318.

His parents, three sisters, & one grandson preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 6, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. The Herrin American Legion and VFW Posts will perform military rites at the graveside. Visitation will be held from 5-9:00 PM, Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at the funeral home.
