Energy- John Robert Payne, 69, of Energy, passed away at 7:43 AM, Friday, August 17, 2018 at his home in Energy.
John was born on July 27, 1949 in Herrin to John and Leva Pauline (Belt) Payne, Jr. Previously he worked as a professional painter and a mechanic at Skelly’s Truck stop in Marion. Recently he worked for the Williamson County Housing Authority performing odd jobs.
John was a jack of all trades and a real wheeler dealer. Earlier he worked for the ICW wrestling organization and at one time drove Randy “Macho Man” Savage in a limousine. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and stories with others and helping those in need. He was a diehard Cubs fan and appreciated everything about the organization. He was a funny man who enjoyed telling stories and singing karaoke at different places throughout the area.
Johns was a lifelong member of West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. He was a man of God who enjoyed sharing his faith.

Son- Billy Jo Williams and wife Tracy of Pittsburg
Son- Jerry Shepard of Sturgis, KY
Son- Emmitt Shepard and wife Jerri of Sturgis, KY
2 granddaughters-
Samantha Payne of Hurst
Serenity Rhodes of Carterville
2 great grandchildren- Jaqualine Shelton and Darron Rhodes
Sister in law- Ellie Long of Marion
Special friend- Amanda Harvel of Johnston City
Several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Danny Long and sisters- Lorreta Payne and Sandra Boots.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 22, 1018 at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. Rev. Terry Griffith will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PN until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. Arrangements were made at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
