John Shirley Plumley

Goreville- John Shirley Plumley, 80, of Goreville, formerly of E. Chicago Heights, IL, passed away at 1:24 AM, Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his home. John was born on April 2, 1929 in Waldo, Arkansas to John Lee & Truddie (Hovarter) Plumley. He married Elizabeth Frances Young on September 12, 1952 in Summitt, IL. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1996. John was a truck driver and retired from Roadway Express. He was a member of Teamsters Local # 705 and an active member of Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy. He enjoyed time spent with his friends and family and playing musical instruments, usually guitar, at various places on Saturday evenings. He liked to fish at Lake of Egypt and Ferne Clyffe State Park. Survivors include- Son- John Plumley & wife Vickey of Marion Daughter- Liz Walenta of Goreville Eleven Grandchildren Ten Great Grandchildren Many nieces & nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers- James & Otha Plumley, and two daughters- Bonnie Murphy & Claudia Hargrove. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy. Rev. Jerry Schell will officiate. Burial will follow at Hazel Cemetery in Dixon Springs. Visitation will be from 6-9:00 PM, Friday, July 24, 2009 at Lone Oak Baptist Church in Energy.
