Carterville- Johnny Gordon Hess, age 77, of Carterville, passed away at 1:35 A.M., on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Marion.
Johnny was born in Marion on February 9, 1940, the son of Robert and Margaret (Alsup) Hess. He married Barbra Vaughn in Herrin on June 18, 1960. She preceded him in death on November 15, 2003.
Johnny was a member of the Sesser Masonic Lodge. He was a proud United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a truck driver for Ron Strizel Trucking Company.

Son- Jimmy Jarvis of Royalton
Son- Mike and Michelle Teeling of Johnston City
Daughter- Patti and Jeff Williamson of Dongola
Son- Daniel Teeling of Lick Creek
Daughter-in-law- Tammy Teeling of Springfield, MO

Three Brothers- Jeff Hess of Marion, Bobby Hess of Golconda, and Joe Hess of Oklahoma
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, step-mother- June Hess, two sons- Steven Hess and Tim Teeling, granddaughter- Angel Shephard, great great grandson- Rhyker Johns, two brothers- Perry and Jim Hess, and one sister- Roberta Goldsmith.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Michael Kniffen will officiate. Entombment will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Military honors will be rendered by Herrin’s VFW and American Legions posts with assistance from the Unites States National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Masonic Rites will be presented by the Sesser Masonic Lodge at 10:30am on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the funeral home with a time of visitation following from 11am-1pm.
