Herrin- JOSEPH JAMES MAGYAR, age 74, of Herrin, passed away at 1:15pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at his residence in Herrin.
Joseph was born on January 31, 1932 to Joseph and Helen (Plavetsky) Magyar. He married Rose Mary Martino on April 15, 1992 in Herrin. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2006.
Mr. Magyar was a member of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, the Herrin American Legion, VFW, and Knights of Columbus. Joseph was a World War II Air Force Veteran.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law- Frank and Monique Magyar of Munson, PA; his nephew- John and Ellen Magyar of Winburne, PA, one great nephew- John Magyar; one great niece- Tara Magyar; 4 step-sons- Wayne and Shirley Hunt of Spartenburg, SC, Mark A. Hunt of Spartenburg, SC, Richard L. Hunt of Denver, CO, Brett M. and Debra Hunt of Spartenburg, SC; Six Step-Grandchildren- Christine M. Good, Robin Hunt, Holly L. Harider, Richard L. Hunt, Jr., Rebella M. Hunt, and Johnathon Hunt; 4 Step-Great Grandchildren- Taylor C. Turner, Cortney Rowe, Jack Harider, and Isabella Harider.
Mr. Magyar was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Rose Mary Magyar.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Herrin City Cemetery with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Military rites will be performed at the graveside by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is handling arrangements.
