Joseph R. Peck Reed, age 82, of Marion, died at 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday, August 28th, 2001, at his home. He was a retired coal miner.
Visitation for Mr. Reed will be from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, August 30th with the funeral service on Friday, August 31st at 11:00 A.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home. Revs. Shorty Alsip and Gordon Smith will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mr. Reed was born September 26, 1918 in Marion to Ellis and Daisy (Wright) Reed. He married Ruth Darnell on Dec. 24, 1949 in Piggott, Arkansas. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of the American Legion Post #364, a 50-year member of VFW Post #9763 in Creal Springs, and U.M.W.A.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Creal Springs; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joe Reed of Harco and Bob & Patricia Purnell of Marion; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna Feuquay of Carrier Mills, Linda & James Murphy of Stonefort, and Jessie & Gregory Westfall of Carrier Mills; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert E. & Marie Donelson and John M. & Pauline Donelson of Creal Springs; one sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine & CD May of Herrin; and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers, and two sisters.
