Marion Juanita Hazel Gay, 86, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at 9:56 A.M. at Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Juanita was born on August 21, 1917 in New Burnside, IL to J.B. Simmons and Lula (Wall) Simmons. She married Robert K. Gay on May 24, 1939 in Charleston, MO. He survives. Also surviving are: Two sons: Gary and Karen Gay - Cape Girardeau,MO Keith and Dianne Gay - Marion, IL One brother, David & Retta Simmons - Mt Vernon, IL Two sisters-in-law- Mildred Gay - Marion, IL Mary Simmons - Detroit Three Grandchildren, Three Step-grandchildren, Two great grandchildren, one step great grandchild She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and James Simmons. She was a faithful member of the Walnut Grove Baptist Church for 74 years and an active member for 70 years as a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir, quartets and duets. She was also the church clerk for about 35 years and deaconess for many years. Juanita was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She leaves behind many relatives and friends and will be missed by all. Funeral Services will be at 2pm on Tuesday July 27, 2004 at the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in New Burnside with the Rev. Gordon Smith officiating. Visitation will be Monday July 26, 2004 from 5-8 pm at the Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, IL and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Drake Cemetery, east of Creal Springs. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, South Chapter at Carbondale, IL.
