Herrin Judi M. Laughlin, 63, of Herrin, passed away at 9:25 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at her home in Herrin surrounded by her loving family and friends after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Judi was born November 17, 1948 in Massillon, Ohio to Ralph Dale and Helen Marie (Spangler) Laughlin. She was a 1966 graduate of Herrin High School.
She was a machinist at Diagraph Corporation until her retirement in December, 2001. She was an active member and volunteer at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. She served on the Welcoming Committee, funeral luncheons and made many baby quilts for The Williamson Country Family Crisis Center in Herrin and the Womens Center in Carbondale. She volunteered at the Lighthouse Shelter in Marion.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially cooking and baking with her granddaughters. She traveled throughout the country and Europe and made a special two week trip to California with her granddaughter Maddie last summer. She was a master gardener. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother who placed the needs of her family above all else. She was a keeper of the family history and instilled in her granddaughters the importance of the small things in life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Chris Parola and infant brother, Larry Dean Laughlin.
The funeral mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. A private interment will take place at a later date at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 1 at Johnson Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin
