Herrin- Judith Ann “Judy” Nelson, 68, of Herrin, formerly of West Salem, passed away at 2:34 PM, Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Judy was born on April 5, 1947 in Corbin, KY to Charles and Mildred (Taylor) Harris. She married Donald Eugene Nelson on August 25, 1989 in Henderson, KY. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2011.
She was a hardworking and determined lady who most recently worked driving patients to and from their appointments for Home Health Care. Prior to that she worked several jobs including; underground telephone locator, truck driver and as a technician for Champion Labs.
She was a member of Christian Covenant Fellowship in Carterville and enjoyed helping in the kitchen whenever she could. She also liked spending time outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. Judy was a talented cook and known for her apple pies, cinnamon rolls and divinity. She had a feisty personality and enjoyed spending time with her family whenever possible.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Pastor Ralph Brandon will officiate. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery in Blairsville. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
