Judy Jones

August 24, 1938 — August 9, 2013

On August 9, 2013, Judy Jones, 74, left her earthly residence and took a glorious journey to join her husband Cicero in their Heavenly home. Judy was born August 24, 1938, at Herrin Hospital, the daughter of the late David and Anna (Abernathy) Hunter. She was working as an LPN at Herrin Hospital when she met her Cicero, who was a patient at that time. The two of them were married August 11, 1961 and shared 48+ years of marriage before he died on March 29, 2010. After they married and were raising their family, Judy spent her later years working as an assistant cook, then head cook at Northside Grade School in Herrin. She enjoyed her years there feeding the students and teachers and was known for her wonderful homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. Judy was a Christian and became a member of the Union Gospel Mission Church in Herrin. She enjoyed the years she was able to attend church services, where she would sing special songs with her lovely voice. She missed the days she was unable to attend church and spend time in fellowship with her church family. Judy was a loving wife, mom, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her survivors include her daughters Lisa Jones and Betsy (Brian) Delai of Herrin; her sons, Tom (Gayla) Jones of Royalton and Richard (Lori) Jones of Herrin. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Josiah (Anna) Jones of Collinsville, Maria Delai and Olivia Delai of Herrin, Zachary Jones and Alexander (Hannah) Jones of Carbondale and LeeAnn and Kassi Jones of Royalton. She was very proud of the most recent member of the Jones family, her great-grandson, Rexley Daniel Jones of Carbondale. She also leaves behind her sister Diane (James) Gualdoni of Johnston City, and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Cicero, parents David & Anna Hunter, grandson Christian Lewis Jones and her very special great niece, Rebekah Anne Coleman.
