June Sanders

Energy- June Sanders, 85, formerly of Energy, passed away at 8:45 AM, Monday, March 31, 2008 at Harris Methodist H.E.B Hospital in Bedford, TX. June was born on June 27, 1922 in Herrin to Henry & Dollie (Davis) McKenzie. She married Rev. Bill Sanders on September 24, 1950 at Energy First United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2006. Though she formerly worked as a beautician, Mrs. Sanders was a pastors wife and worked diligently to support her husband in every capacity needed at various churches in southern Illinois. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and in quartets and played the piano for many years at Scottsboro Baptist Church & Cambria Baptist Church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cambria. June was a charter member of the Herrin Garden Club. She and Bill enjoyed tending to the many flowers and roses at their home in Energy. She was one of the founding members of the Williamson County Home Extension. In her spare time she enjoyed painting and spending time with friends and family. Survivors include- Daughter- Donna Hankamer and fianc Larry Dugan of Haltom, City, TX Special friend and future grandson- Johnathan Dugan of Haltom City, TX Many nieces, nephews and cousins Sisters in law- Reba Bennett of West Frankfort Betty Meadows of Herrin Dorothy Robinson of Tucson, AZ Marie Sanders of Tigard, OR She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters- Linnea Harris & Viola Swalls, two sisters in infancy and one brother- Ellis McKenzie. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Jerry Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-9:00 PM, Friday, April 4, 2008 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorial donations are suggested to Cambria First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home/ 201 S. 13th St./ Herrin, IL 62948.
