Herrin- KENNETH BROWN, age 87, of Vandalia, formerly of Herrin, passed away at 2:44pm on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Fayette County Hospitals Long Term Care Unit in Vandalia, IL. Kenneth was born in New Liberty, MO on October 14, 1922, the son of James W. and Mabel (Hargrove) Brown. He married June Esther Romines in St Louis on March 31, 1946. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2009. Mr. Brown was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Vandalia and a former member of the Herrin First Baptist Church for 56 years. He was a World War II Army Veteran. Kenneth retired from the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a mail carrier for more than thirty years. Survivors include two daughters- Janet and Gary Potts of Vandalia, IL Vicki and Phil Newcom of Salem, MO Son- Stan and Karen Brown of Wilmington, NC 5 Grandchildren- Tiffany Summann of Vandalia, IL Danielle Newcom of Montrose, CA Jarrod and Kim Newcom of Woodland Park, CO Ryan and Shelly Marks of Vandalia, IL Megan Brown and fianc Ray Teachey of Wilmington, NC 5 great grandchildren Sister- Eileen and Si Jones of Warrenton, OR Brother- Vernon and Charlotte Brown of Estes Park, CO Sister-in-laws- Leona Brown of West Plains,MO Frances Brown of Fernandina Beach, FL He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Grammer officiating. Entombment will follow at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Energy with military honors presented by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be held from 11:30am until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the Herrin First Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home; 201 S. 13th Street; Herrin, IL 62948.
