Larry E. Grounds

Herrin- LARRY E. GROUNDS, age 70, of Herrin, passed away at 7:49am on Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Herrin Hospital. Larry was born in Ferges on August 9, 1938, the son of Clarence and Lillian (Bristow) Grounds. He married Marilyn Haught in Herrin on October 13, 1962. They shared forty-six years of marriage. She survives in Herrin. Mr. Grounds was a member of the Herrin Second Baptist Church. He was retired from E. Blakenship in Marion, where he was employed for twenty years. Survivors include his wife- Marilyn Grounds of Herrin, IL Two sisters- Dorthelle and Luther Youngblood of Herrin, IL Mary and Joe Cockburn of Johnston City, IL One brother- Bill and Juda Grounds of Marion, IL Two sisters-in-law- Beverly and Alan Richardson of Herrin, IL Lisa and Bill Carnaghi of Energy, IL Two brothers-in-law- Skip and Gayla Haught of St. Louis, MO Curtis and Sandra Haught of Johnston City, IL Several nieces and nephews Mr. Grounds was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers-Elroy, Ernest, A.W., and Richard Grounds; five sisters- Maude Oglesby, Pauline Frick, Audrey Haynes, Betty Oliver, and Arietta Hubbard. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Dr. Jerry Ford and Rev. Brad Harlow officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-9pm on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the funeral home.
