Marion Laverne Barney Simmerman, 82, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at his residence. Barney was born May 20, 1923 in Union County to Ray & Flora (Sheppard) Simmerman. He married Mae Boyer on May 05, 1943 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; together they have shared over 62 years of marriage. Mae survives in Marion. Barney was a self-employed logger for many years. He was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the Army. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #1301 of Marion. He was of the Baptist Faith. Barney is survived by: His Wife Mae of Marion One Son BJ Simmerman and wife Kelley of Marion Four Daughters: Kay Hickey and husband Lindell of Marion Janice Horsley of Marion Tammy Walters and husband Robert of Marion Patsy Martin and husband Dink of Marion Eleven Grandchildren Several Great Grandchildren One Brother Robert & Betty Simmerman of Evant, TX Several nieces & nephews Preceded by: Parents, Three Brothers Gene, Frank & Lester Simmerman, Son-in-law Charles Horsley Graveside services will be Friday, June 17, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Maplewood Cemetery with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Military rites will be performed at the graveside by VFW Post #1301 and American Legion #147 of Marion. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is handling the arrangements. For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.
