It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Lela Mae McKinney (Sullins) age 88, of Marion, IL. Passed away on June, 06, 2024 at 1:41AM comfortably at Deaconess Heartland Regional Hospital in Marion, IL.
Lela was born November 27, 1935, in Williamson County, a daughter of the late Harry Sullins Sr. and Ruth (Kelly) Sullins.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband of 70yrs, Harold Dean McKinney, Son Jeffery Dean McKinney, Daughter Lela Deanene Chitwood , 1 Sister Mary Alice Garoutte, 1 Brother Harry Sullins Jr., Daughter in law Pam McKinney, Grand Daughter Dana Jacobs, Great Granddaughter Chelsey Jane McKinney, & Grand Son Brian Holmes.
She is survived by her Son Harry McKinney Sr. (Cindy) of Johnston City IL. 1 Niece, Mary Faughn (Steve) of Vienna IL. Son in-law Robert Chitwood Sr. of Percey IL. 8 Cousins, Grandchildren, Melissa McKinney,) Harry McKinney Jr. , Amber Holmes, Bruce Fosse(Heather, Tedra), Amy Stiegleiter, Nathan Chitwood, Josh Chitwood, Robert Sims(Angie), Great grandchildren, Keanna McKinney, Chelsey McKinney, Kennon Hearn, Ethan Holmes(Sara), Evan Holmes, Megan Holmes(Christian), Brayden McKinney, Dylan Fosse, Baylie Fosse, Brittany Stiegleiter, Jeremy Stiegleiter, Zane Stiegleiter Aiden Marks, Mycah Browing, Great Great Grandchildren, Lilianna Johnson, Gracelyn Johnson, Keira Davis, Ivory Jane Holmes (Z) Madison Dangbar, Spencer Stiegleiter, Justin Eaves. Lela resided at Integrity Nursing Home; she loved her nurses and enjoyed the conversations with them. She loved sitting outside in her swing. And taking drives in the country. Lela was a very witty lady that liked to sit and talk about the days, her days that is of growing up and life with her husband. She was full of spunk and loved her family. She was known for her yummy banana pudding and jello cake. Lela was an employee of the Marion courts motel and Little Egypt Smorgasbord.
She has left an impression on everyone and will be missed very much by her family and friends.
Our family would like to thank the Staff at Integrity Nursing Home for the love and care they gave her and also the Nursing Staff at Deaconess Hospital in Marion, for the comfort care that was provided in her last days here with us and the support of our family through this difficult time. We appreciate you all.
Visitation will be Monday, June 10, 2024 from 10 - 10:45 am at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11 am at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Don Colson officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market Street, Marion, Illinois 62959.
