Lena Martinaga

Herrin- Angelena Lena Rose (Coloni) Martinaga, age 96, of Herrin, passed away at 6:25pm on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin. Angelena was born in Herrin on February 20, 1913, the daughter of Antoni and Rosa (Ballarati) Coloni, Italian immigrants from Buscate, Italy. She was baptized on March 16, 1913 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, where she remained a lifelong member. Lena married T Sgt Martin Martinaga on May 20, 1953 in Herrin at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1954. Survivors include her niece- Linda Abbott of Murphysboro, IL Great Niece- Brandi McGee and Tim Homoya of Energy, IL Great Great Nephews- Austin Nelson and Braden Homoya of Energy, IL Great Nephew- Ryan and Jenny Schuler of Murphysboro, IL Great Great Nephew- Jacob Schuler- Murphysboro, IL Nephew- Louis Sonny Fitzgerald of El Paso, TX Nephew- Larry Fitzgerald of Lawton, OK Nephew- Larry Coloni of Forsyth, IL Nephew- Logan Coloni of Dixon, IL Great Nephew John Coloni of Waltonville, IL Great nephew- Steve Coloni of Herrin, IL She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister- Sadie Coloni, three brothers- John, Frank, and Louis Midnight Coloni, two nephews- Richard and Donald Coloni, and a sister-in-law- Velma Coloni. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sister Marciana for her home visits when Lena was no longer able to attend church and to Jerry and Jackie Morse for being such wonderful neighbors. And to Brandi, your daily visits and everyday reciting of the Lords Prayer, went above and beyond the call of a great niece. Your loving care and compassion will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, December 7, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be held from 10-11am on Monday at the funeral home. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Education Foundation or Church Fund.
