Herrin- LEONARD G. LAWRENCE, age 74, of Herrin, passed away at 11:47pm on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at St. Louis University Hospital. Leonard was born in Herrin on March 3, 1932, the son of George and Josephine (Teckorius) Lawrence. He married Judith Land in Marion on June 11, 1971 and together they shared 35 years of marriage. Mr. Lawrence had previously worked at Allens and Norge. He retired as a self-employed mechanic. Leonard was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was a US Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and a former member of the Herrin VFW, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his loving wife- Judy Lawrence of Herrin, IL Daughter- Cindy Dennie of Herrin, IL Daughter- Shari and Keith Davis of Carterville, IL Son- Ed Lawrence of Herrin, IL Step-son- Billy and Ginger Williams of Marion, IL Step-Daughter- Kendra and Eric Avery of West Frankfort, IL Six Grandchildren- Mike and Amy DeWitt of Benton, IL Michelle Thompson of Carbondale, IL Dani Davis and Taylor Davis of Carterville, IL Timothy Williams and Gregory Williams of Marion, IL One great grandson- Gavin Eain Parker DeWitt of Benton, IL One sister- Delores Lawrence of Murphysboro, IL Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother- Bill Lawrence. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Monday, March 5, 2007 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin with Father Bob Flannery officiating. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery with military rites performed by Herrins American Legion and VFW Posts. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with a prayer service beginning at 5:00pm on Sunday evening.
