Leroy Skelton

Carbondale- Luther Leroy Skelton, age 72, of Carbondale, passed away at 6:25pm on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at his home in Carbondale surrounded by his loving family.  Leroy was born in Anna on April 4, 1943, the son of Eugene and Gertrude (Ragsdale) Skelton. He married Sandra Kay Hamrick in Carbondale in 1985. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2012.  Leroy was a proud United States Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War.  He was a carpenter by trade.  Survivors include his daughter- Amanda Swinkunas and fiancé Brandon Pulliam of Carbondale Daughter- Tabatha Swinkunas and fiancé Bruce Allen Moreland of Cobden Daughter- Kimberly Swinkunas of Ware Granddaughter- Samantha Baker of Ware Great Grandchildren- Kaden Miller of Carbondale      Cienna Johnson of Carbondale      Chevy Moreland of Cobden Three Brothers- Bruce, Bob, and Lewis Skelton all of Carbondale  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife- Sandra, three sisters- Laura, Ruth, and Linda Skelton, brother- Ronald Skelton, and nephew- Robert Skelton, Jr.  Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Buncombe with military honors provided by Herrin’s VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the United States National Guard. Visitation will be held from noon-2pm on Wednesday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
