Marion- Lewis Joseph Germann, age 86, of Marion, departed this life on Friday September 23, 2005 at 3:30pm at the Fountains Nursing Home in Marion after a short illness.
Lewis was born in Carlyle, IL on April 15, 1919, the son of Edward and Louisa (Schellenberger) Germann. He married Imogene Shaw on June 25, 1966. She preceded him in death in March of 1997.
Mr. Germann had been a farmer, miner, and janitor, having retired from the Marion School District in 1985. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Marion.
Lewis loved to joke and have fun. He loved to laugh and talk about the good old days. He had a deep and abiding love for small children and always kept bubble gum or candy in his pockets to give them.

3 nieces- Sharon Russell- West Frankfort, IL
Dorothy Paul- Festus, MO
Matilda Bayles- Stonefort, IL
1 nephew- Keith Thomas
He was preced in death by-
His parents, his wife, his twin sister- Beatrice Germann, 4 brothers- Edwin, Lawrence, Gilbert and infant brother Kenneth.
Lewis had many friends he loved dearly, especially Kressie and Connie McNew. Connie was like a daughter and helped Lewis in many ways. He also loved his next door neighbors, Lamar (Gup)and Jan Zerbe and their two daughters, Kaitlin and Kara who were the apples of his eye. He spent many wonderful hours entertaining "his girls". John Browning, Rob Stotlar, Paul Ramsey, and Gordon Montgomery were also Lewis' very dear friends. He had a wonderful caretaker, Rose Dismore, who provided wonderful Christian love to Lewis when he became ill.
Funeral services will be Sunday September 25, 2005 at 2:00pm at the Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will follow at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery located near Dykersburg, IL. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until the time of services at the funeral home on Sunday September 25, 2005. Mr. John Browning and Mr. Gordon Montgomery will preside over the service as requested by Lewis.
Lewis leaves a lot of fond memories to his loved ones. He was a fun loving guy who greatly enjoyed life. He will be sadly missed by those who loved and cared for him. Rest in peace.
