Herrin- LISTON CICERO JONES, age 86, of Herrin, soared on the wind to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday March 29, 2010 at 12:32pm.
Cicero was born in Herrin on October 15, 1923, the son of Jasper Green and Ida (Sparks) Jones. He married Judy Hunter on August 11, 1961 at the Johnston City First Baptist Church. She survives in Herrin.
Cicero served in the U.S. Navy in the battle of the North Atlantic during World War 2. After his Navy service, he worked in the Southern Illinois oil fields, large construction projects, including Thule Air Force Base in Greenland, worked to help build the Barkley dam and eventually was a self employed welder and bulldozer mechanic.
Mr. Jones became a Christian in April of 1969 and became a member of the Union Gospel Mission Church in Herrin. He spent the rest of his life spreading Christs gospel to everyone he met. He especially enjoyed his time visiting with the neighborhood children and showing them Christs love. He was often seen with his faithful companion Junior, who followed Cicero wherever he went.

Maria and Olivia Delai of Herrin, IL
Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law- Diane and Jim Gualdoni of Johnston City, IL
Many nieces and nephews, Great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters- Virginia Smith, Marie Hampton, Lola Hampton,
Lillie Mae Melhorn, and Mary Long; brothers- Lathie Jones, Leslie Long, and Edward Long; precious baby grandson- Christian Lewis Jones and special great niece- Rebekah Anne Coleman.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, April 2, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Robert Jilek officiating. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home.
