Loreta D. Hughes

Herrin- LORETA D. HUGHES, age 91, of West Frankfort, formerly of Herrin, passed away at 4:08am on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Franklin Hospital in Benton. Loreta was born in Thompsonville on November 3, 1917, the daughter of Rawleigh Hershal and Eva (Huffine) Duckworth. She married Harry W. Hughes on October 6, 1945 in Mt Vernon. They shared fifty-two years of marriage. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1997. Loreta attended the Hurricane Memorial Baptist Church and volunteered her time with the Herrin Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She was retired from the Elgin Mental Health Facility. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, her beloved cat- Pete and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, three brothers, two half sisters and two half brothers. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Duane Faulkenberry officiating. Burial will follow at Thurmond Cemetery in Ewing. Visitation will held from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
