Louetta "Granny" Colp

Herrin- Louetta Colp, age 100, of Herrin, passed away at 4:58pm on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin. Louetta was born in Martwick, Kentucky on June 19, 1916, the daughter of Harry and Hettie (Hudson) Suthard. She married William Harvey Colp in Herrin on July 9, 1934.  He preceded her in death in June of 1968. Prior to retirement, Lou had worked at Charles Todd Laundry, Smoler Brothers, and as a cook at Herrin schools. Mrs. Colp was the eldest living member of West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin.  She had a deep love and devotion for her church and her family. Lou was a very faithful and active church member, before her health prevented her from going.  She played a very important role in the “chicken and dumplin’ gang”. Many of her instructions will be carried on for years to come, such as “Poke. Don’t stir.”  “Granny”, as everyone knew her, will be deeply missed by all those that loved her. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law- William “Bill” Ray and Glenda Colp of Herrin Six grandchildren- Sue and Carl Dunn of Herrin Kay and Steve McHargue of Marion Kelley and Mark Patterson of Goreville Debbie Henson of Herrin Scott and Beth Kerley of Herrin Krista and Duffe Elkins of Bloomington, IN Sixteen Great Grandchildren- Matthew Price Tara Myers Kimberly Gurley Michael Dunn Nick Dunn Kami Garrett Laura Pritchett Kara Bevis Markella Patterson Sarah Baldwin Rachel Henson Austin Kerley Wyatt Kerley Madeline Elkins Mason Elkins Marlee Elkins Several Great Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter- Betty June Kerley, four brothers- Bill Warman, Ben Warman, Eclas Suthard, and Roy Suthard, sister- Pearl Francis, grandson- Terry Price, and great granddaughter- Jessica Patterson. Funeral services to celebrate Louetta’s life will be held at 6:00pm on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin.  Rev. Terry Griffith will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin.  Committal services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Herrin City Cemetery.   Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to West Monroe Apostolic Church.
