Herrin- Louis Anthony (Geneto) Garavaglia, 83, of Zeigler formerly of Herrin, died at 3:55 A.M., Sunday, March 2, 2003 at Herrin Hospital. Louis was born on March 29, 1919 in Herrin to John & Caroline (Merlo) Garavaglia. He married Emily Ann Walker on September 2, 1967 in Zeigler. She preceded him in death in 1993. Louis worked as a painter for Chase Construction and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale before his retirement as a driver for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Zeigler, a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin and a life member of the Knights of Columbus in Herrin and the Herrin Eagles, as well as being a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters Union. When he was able, Louis enjoyed hunting rabbits and birds, fishing, and reading. He took great interest in politics and was involved with the Democratic Party. SURVIVORS: Nephew- John Battioli & wife Nadine- Herrin Nephew- John Lee Venegoni & wife Judy- Herrin Niece- Mary Norma Miller & husband Alex- Downers Grove, IL Niece- Anna Marie Giacone & husband Ron- Benton Six Great Nieces & Nephews He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, and five sisters. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00AM, Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Monsignor Ken Schaefer will officiate. Burial will follow at San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Monday at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. The prayer service will be held at 6:00PM, Monday at the funeral home.
