Herrin- Louis Angelo Absher, 93, of Herrin, passed away at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at his home.
Louis was born on August 7, 1919 in Herrin to Louis and Anna (Buchman) Absher. He married Margaret June Harris on December 7, 1941 in Marion. They were married for more than 70 years before she preceded him in death on May 28, 2012.
Louis was a veteran of World War II, having served as a training sergeant in the US Army in San Francisco. Upon his discharge, Louis began working at Modern Laundry in Herrin. He drove a delivery truck and later became manager of the business. He retired after working many years at the business. After retirement from the laundry business, he sold cars for Brewster Motors in Herrin for many years.
Lois and Margaret raised nine children. Louis was a devoted, caring and hard working father. He put his family’s welfare above everything else. He was a Christian, raising his children and conducting his life in faith. He led a full and happy life filled with family and love. He was a member of the FirstBaptistChurch in Energy. He was active in the church and taught Sunday school for many years. He later became a member of HurricaneMemorialBaptistChurch where he was also active and remained a member until his death.
He was a devoted husband to Margaret, whom he adored. He spent his last few years taking care of her throughout her illness. He was deeply saddened and lonely after her death and expressed many times that he wished to be with her. Although he will be missed by his family here on earth, we know he is in Heaven with mom today.

Daughter- Connie Bissey and husband John of Herrin

He was preceded in death by his wife, sons- Keith and Ron Absher, daughter- Judy Workman, granddaughter- Amy Absher, brother- Luke Shepherd and sister- Marie Baker.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 15, 2013 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Duane Faulkenberry and Dr. Randy Grace will officiate. Burial will follow at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin VFW and American Legion Posts with assistance from the Illinois National Guard. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service, Friday at the funeral home.
