Retired Lt. Cmdr Charles R. Mitchell, 82, entered into rest on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 4:15 A.M. at Delmar Gardens-West in Chesterfield, Missouri. Charles was born December 19, 1928 the son of Harold & Helen (Sitnick) Mitchell in Mitchellsville, Illinois. He was the beloved husband of Mary Irene (Richerson) for over 59 years. They were married on January 1, 1952 in Marion, Illinois. He was a retired Lieutenant Commander, US Navy. Charles received his Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering in 1951 from University of Illinois. He was a member of the American Legion, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), and Association of the United States Navy (AUSN). Survivors include; Wife Mary Irene Mitchell Son Charles R. Mitchell Jr. and wife Dixie Daughter Janet S. Wasylczak and husband Michael Grandchildren; Jason C. Mitchell and wife Terrilyn Lisa M. Avvocato and husband Jason Daniel M. Wasylczak Great Grandchildren; Charlie M. Mitchell Emma M. Mitchell Preceded by his Parents and daughter Diana Lynn Anderson Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:30 A.M. at Zion Cemetery in Ozark, Illinois with Pastor James Holderfield officiating. Military rites will be presented by members of Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to New Life Church, 11570 Mark Twain Lane, Bridgeton, Missouri 63044 (Protestant church services held at Delmar Gardens West nursing facility).
