Marion- LT. COL. JAMES CARLYNN SPRINGS, age 88, of Marion, passed away at 6:30pm on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
James was born in Williamson County on September 10, 1921, the son of Charles Orval and Ina (Sims) Springs. He married Wilma Dell Peyton on August 18, 1942 in Mt Vernon. She survives in Marion
Mr. Springs was a member of the Third Baptist Church in Marion. He was the retired Superintendent of Schools. He retired after twenty years of honorably serving his country in the United States Air Force, the Army Air Corp and the Air Force Reserve having served during World War II and the Korean War. James was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, the IL High School Administrators Association, the IL Educators Association, and a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters- Nancy Rose Carter and Mary Alice Dahmer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Monday, November 16, 2009 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Harold Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery with military honors provided by Marions VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147, and the National Guard Flag Detail Unit. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion.
