Luther Troy (Lawrence) Frey, age 76, of Marion, died at 5:10 A.M. on Thursday, May 24th, 2001 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Services were held on Sunday, May 27th at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Ross and Rev. Paul Lee officiating. Burial followed in Maplewood Cemetery in Marion, with military rites by VFW Post 1301 of Marion. Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 26th at the funeral home.
Mr. Frey was born April 3, 1925 in Marion to Luther and Effie (Sanson) Frey. They preceded him in death. He married Violet (Meadows) Frey in Marion on April 6, 1945. Mr. Frey was retired from Pepsi Cola Company in Marion after 25 years. He was a World War II Veteran and a member of VFW Post #1301. He attended the Revival Tabernacle Church in Spillertown. He also enjoyed horseback riding, flea markets, and trading watches and knives.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joe & Anita Frey of Marion; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Valerie & Les Hall, Carol & Wayne Murphy, and Cheryl Smothers, all of Marion; nine grandchildren, Shana Marie Frey, Cortney Jo Frey, Ryan Williams, Heidi Orlovich, Mike Murphy, Denver Murphy, Lacee Murphy, Jeff Richey and Michael Smothers; five great-grandchildren, Elaney and Paige Williams, Keegan Lineberry, Rachelle and Dyllan Ball; three sisters, Helen & Bill Shadowens of Johnston City, Ann & Jim McCalla, and Jesselene Hart, all of Marion. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billie, Raymond & Treacil Frey.
